Welcome
Welcome to Data Science Class! 🎉
This year, you’ll step into the shoes of a rookie intern at the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD)! 👮 Your boss just handed you a massive dataset covering the last three years 📊 and casually said, “Make something useful out of it.” But oh boy—this data is messy, complicated, and feels impossible to work with! 😱
But don’t worry! Whether you're a beginner or more advanced, we’ve got you covered!
First up, you’ll dive into understanding the data, cleaning it, and brainstorming what you could do with it. After that, we’ll get hands-on with some visualizations 📈 and a little regression to wow your boss. Who knows? You might even be looking at a raise or promotion by the end! 💰🚀
And for our advanced students, let’s really blow your boss’s mind 🤯 with clustering and predictions to make LA’s crime data more insightful and help improve the LAPD’s (data) operations. Achieve that, and who knows what exciting opportunities await? 😉✨
Throughout this project, you’re encouraged to join coding meetups and make friends with your fellow interns! You’ll learn together, share ideas, and tackle questions as a team—no need to go it alone. 🤝
Oh, and don’t forget one of the perks of your LAPD internship: access to DataCamp courses! 📚 Complete your internship and six DataCamp courses, and you’ll earn a TechAcademy Certificate in Data Science with Python or with R! 🏆 More details to come!
This project guide was built from scratch by TechAcademy’s Data Science team. Special shoutouts to Saman, Linh Ha, Ricardo, and Alexander for the Python work, and to Feline and Feron for the R versions. 👏
